MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Karori Borough Council was held last evening. There were present the Mayor (Mr. B. G. H. Burn), Councillors, W. Skegg, E. L. Tingey, J. W. Henderson, J. Mackenzie, R. T. Pell, H. 14. Dryden, and \V. G. Bradnock. A letter was received from Messrs Young, Neave and Courtney, on behalf of a number of Northland' ratepayers, with regard to the special rate levied in that district upon the basis of the loan which was raised for street widening and tramways. The Northland ratepayers claimed that one loan was raised for street widening and tramways, and that, the revenue for tramways must be charged with interest and sinking fund on the whole loan, and held that the portion of rates which had been collected from them in respect of the slreet widening portion of the loan should be applied for tiie purpose for which it was collected. It was decided to refer tho letter to the borough solicitor to deal with. AVith respect to amalgamation with the city a letter was received from the Wellington, Town Clerk that the officers of the corporation had been instructed to inquire into the borough rateable property, and the borough finances. .It was explained that this was as far as the amalgamation proposal had reached, and later on the committees of the borough and city would meet to further discuss tho subject. The Health Inspector reported one caso of diphtheria in ttie borough.
