NEW AMERICAN ANTI-TANK GUN
A HANDY ENGINE OF DESTRUCTION.
The United States ordnance factories aro now producing! an improved type o£ the 37-millimeter. French cannon which lias been designed i'® use against tlio Gorman tank. The new gun will nro sixty one-pound shells or twenty-nvo aimed shots a minute. A variety ot shells aro being made, the most successful being an amour-piercing shell and an explosive shell. Among the chief advantages of the new gun are its mobility, and the fact that it can be used from tl\o fire trenches of a first-line leui. - The gun weighs about 1« P including the mounting. It is, possible in an attack for carry tlio' cannon and two or tliiei men to carry the mount. Moreo\ci, tlio weapon can bo assembled so rapidly that dunC the barrage it can be dismounted and hidden in a dug-out, jit plaal m action between the tiino tip olleii.ne barrage lifts and the attacking loicea leach the advance posts. Already tlio gun has been vied a-ainst the German- tanks, and Kr.s demonstrated that it can stop them with a few well-placed shots.
