HEALTH PATROLS
WOMEN TO BE APPOINTED.
I lie regulations issued last week under the Social Hygiene Act provide for the appointment of health patrols, who will have certain duties in cdnaection with women and young people. The regulations will not become operative *".t once, sinco there are at present no patrols, but some appointments will be made in (ho not distant future.
The Minister of Public Health (Hon. G. W Russell), referring to tho proposals, stated tiiat for the present only women, patrols would be appointed. The regulation; provided that the patrol officers must bo over forty years of age, and it was obvious that they must be women of strong character and tactful manner. They will havo difficult as well as important duties to perform. Tho Minister added that it is intended to convene public meetings soon for the purpose of establishing social hygiene associations in the four centres, where tho Act is to be brought into operation. The object of calling these meetings is to enable all classes of the public to be represented, in the formation of each association, from which an executive will bo appointed.
The executive will act in a general way in collecting information that will be of servico to district health officers and to health patrols. Tho patrols will be permitted to attend meetings of tho executives, but will not!be allowed to give any information to anyone except district health officers, who will have tho administration of the Act in their hands.
