AWARDS OF THE ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY. By Telegraph—Pres3 Association Christchurch, August 9. The Royal humane Society of New Zealand has made the following awards: Ernest C. .CrosSj for an attempted rescue at Simmer, was adjudged worthy of a certificate, but as Cross was killed at the front recently, the certificate goes to his widow. Alfred T. Cleverly was awarded a certificate for attempting to rescue a man from drowning at Wellington on November 17, 1917. Constable Ernest F. Jones was awarded a certificate for rescuing two men from drowning in tho Maiiawatu .River at Palmerslon on January 2G. Norman Batchelor, ji Christ's College boy, was awarded a bronze medal for rescuing a" man' from drowning at New Brighton. In connection with the rescue of .three girls from drowning at Gisborno on January 27, 1918, Thomas Heeney and Eric D. Robinson were awarded bronze medals, and Thomas Jngham, Lillian Whiteley, and Eric Ellery wore awarded certificates. For rescuing a boy from drowning at Oainaru, Violet Mel'calf (113 years) is to receive a letter of commendation. A certificate was awarded to John Cameron for an attempted rescue from drowning at Ooiuaru on January 1, 1918. In the case, of -Philip-L. Hunt, for tho attempted rescue of Chief-Petty Officer Sandalls nt Ngiiliauranga, Wellington, on December IG, 1917, tho application was held over because application had inadvertently Iwen ma.de to the Royal Australian Society. Emily Towers was awarded a certificate for the rescue of three women in the Thames Public Baths.
ltodolphus Richardson, for tlio rescue of a. boy at Gisborne on April 22, 1918, received a silver medal.
A framed certificate was awarded Glenwyn B. Eusor (1- years) for the rescue of nnother girl at Cheltenham beach, Auckland, on December 31, 1917. In Uiocase of the Into Arthur H. Amlniry, who gave his life in attempting the' rescue of the lato W. E. Oourlay from death on Mount Egniont on Juno 2. 1918, it was considered that Ambury deserved the society's gold medal, lmt under the rules this could not be granted. It was decided to forward an In Memoriiiiu Certificate, with a personal letter appreciating the act, and regretting that tho directors were unable to award the gold meilal. It was decided to send a letter of commendation to William V. Murphy for saving two girls from drowning at TenMilo Creek.
