SENTENCES ON SOLDIERS

FINDINGS OP DISTRICT COURTSMARTIAL. District courts-martial hold at Trentham Camp have found the following soldiers guilty of disobeying in such a manner as. to show a. wilful defiance of authority, a lawful command given personally by their superior officor, in the execution of his office; and'each, of them has been sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for two years:— 84,007 Pte. J. Vailance, Details. 84,172 Pto. E. R. Williams, Details. 84,105 Pto. J. Duncan, Details. 8-4,108 Pte. B. W. Morgan, Details. 79,953 Pte. R. E. R. Moxham, Details, was found guilty of deserting His Majesty's Service, and losing by neglect Ins equipment, clothing, and regimental necessaries., and he was sontencod to imprisonment with hard labour for two years, with stoppages of pay for deficiencies in. tit amounting to £Z 19s. 6d. The finding was confirmed at Wellington on August 3, 1918, but the punishment was mitigated to 120 days' detention, and the sentenco was further mitigated as altered, so that if the accused embarks, for active service outside New Zealand before the expiration of his sentence, then upon arrival at the final port ot disembarkation the unexpired portion (if any), of his sentence shall ho remitted and his New Zealand records' shall be endorsed accordingly.
