SOCIAL HYGIENE
REGULATIONS FOR HEALTH PATROLS. Under the provisions of the Social Hygiene Act, 1917, provision is made for tho appointment by the Minister of Public Health of'health patrols for the protection of tho health and morality of young persons. •. The following regulations governing the appointment of health patrols were published in last evening's Gazette:— . 1. (1) Applications for appointment as a health patrol may be made in writing to the Chief Health Officer at Wellington. (2) Every such application shall be accompanied by not less than two recommendations or testimonials as to character and fitness, for'the duties of a health patrol, of which at least one shall be by a minister of religion, or by some society established for or engaged in social work (whether, in New Zealand or elsewhere). (3) No person under the age of forty years shall be appointed at a health patrol. 2. Every person appointed as a health patrol shall; subject to the general authority; , v of the Minister, bo under the supervision and direction of a district health officer under the Public Health Act, IMS, and shall from time to time, as required, furnish reports as to their duties to the District Health Officer. 3. Every person appointed as a health patrol under these' regulations shall hold office during the pleasure of tho Minister. ; 4. No person appointed as a health patrol shall in his or her official rtpneity commence any proceedings in any CViirt with respect to any offence committed against the Social 'Hygiene Act, I'Jl 7 , or any other Act. 5. In particular, but without limiting the generosity of the provision in that behalf of the Social Hygieno Act, it shall be the duty of health patrols, so far as in their discretion they think fit— (a) To advise and warn.young per- • ,6ons who "may during the evening or night bo found in any street, domain, park, .or other public place, or frequenting any place of public entertainment, without adequato supervision and protection; (1)) To advise the pnrenls nntl guardians of such young persons o" the dangers incident to. allowing them to frequent such . places as aforesaid without adequato supervision and protection; and (c) To make inquirv and to report as to cases where children ar« alleged to be living in houses 'if illfame, or in any other place or under conditions in which thoy may bo icasonably believed to be liable to contract any venereal disease.
