TRAMWAY FIGURES

INCREASE IN REVENUE AND WORKING EXPENSES.

It will bo obvious to' anyone who studies closely the tramway figures produced and published each month that it is becoming a difficult matter for the increase in revenue to get far away from the increase in working expenses. The margin is at present in favour of tho revenue, but the growth of working expenses is so close, in comparison, that the tramway authorities may have cause to worry as to what will happen if the time arrives when the revenue docs not increase. During the sixteen weeks up to July 21 the revenue of the Wellington trams increased by .£5495 (or tt the rate of about ,£340 per week), which is quite satisfactory, but during the same time the working expenses increased (on the figures for the corresponding period of last year) by .£4398 (or .nearly £2U per week), which reduces the satisfaction almost totally. The figures for the four weeks to July 21 (four weeks of bad weather), compared with tho corresponding period of laet year, are as follow :— ' 1018. 1917.
