Uuoimuan's horse's stock won £13,89!! 10s. in stake money last Mason, as against £18,o8G during the Bear son 1916-17. Tho locallv-ownod llenelaus was Martian's bc?t stoko earner, ho bavins won £2645. whilst ilargcrine was next with £1640. Ouly two other of his Block succeeded in winning over £1000, they being Kanua (£l5O 0, and Vagabond (£1330). DuriuK the Beacon 1916-17 tho Ohokoboro horse Adjutant was Martian's chief stakewinner with £2640, but during tho past 6easou tho son of Discipline did not win a race, and only/managed to mako £160 in place money. : Since tho 1909-10 season tho progeny of tho Alartugon sire, raoing in hm Zealand, has won the big sum of £106,000. Tmiiiks to Estland and Finmark, Mr. T. H. Lowry's sire Finland (Bill of l'ortlaudFishwHe) moved lroin fourth tthe position he occupied tho season before) to seoond place on the list. .Finland had 20 winners of place money who earned £13,(»2 10s. Ilia principal winners werei—Estlaud, £3815; n'lnmarK, -UioU; iVyatad, £1416, and Lingerie, £1055. 'l'akeu on an average basin the winnings of eaoh of the Finland tribe last season was about £200 bottor than that of the llartiau-hred animals. The Bill of Portland sire's stook havo won in New Zealand sinco the season 1903-9 over £58,000 in Btakes. Tho name of Domoathenes (DesmondCarlin) appears on the list for the second time, He has' moved up from thirtyfourth to third position. During tho ISI617 season tho llawke's Bay stallion had only flvo winners of placo money of the value of £2825. Last aeaiion he had 14 winner*. with £8750 in Btakes. That good iilly i Impediment was his chief earner, she having won £2980, whilst Informal secured £1565, and Demagogue £1190. Hymettus (Cyllene-Sweet Balsam) was in the previous (1916-17) season sovonth on the sires' list, but last season he Improved his position to fourth. During the season just olosed he had 23 winners of place money of a value of £8707. The ohestnut colt ilvmestra again was his chief winner, he' having gathered in £2625. Hyraestra'« full-sister Torfcdra alto did well, she having won for Air. A. M'Donald £905._ Of the remainder of the cx-Karainu siros stock liuHpos, £765, and Bagdad, £740, did best. That good old liorße Ohortlo was the best winner the defunct AlultiHd (Multiform—Heriot) had representing him lssl season. The season 1916-17 buw Multifid third on tlie list, but laßt season he wen! back to fifth position, his 27 winners securing £8305 IDs. Ohortlo (£1220) and Multiply (£1200) wero the only ones of his progeny to win over jiIOUU. • . Martian's half-brother Bonlform (Multi-form-Otterden) did very well loat season, ho occupying sixth position with £7530 10s. 'l'lie dual Derby winner, and now steeplechaser, Don lteve, by winning £2320, gave iiib sire material assistauoe, as did Wishful, who appropriated £1305. The Tren-ttmm-trained Ilonulo Maid was responsible lor £1115 of Boniform's total. The imported All lilaok (Oallinule—Vortex), during the season 1916-17, occupied secoud poiitiou on the list, when Ilia priu cipal winners were Desert Oold, Bunting, and Lady Black. For the past seaßon his stock won £6791, whicJU places the Gallinule sire seventh on the list. The champion mare 1 Desert Gold was again his best winner, she having won in New Zealaud £2625. Lady Black, who won £1395 the previous season, only won £60 last season. All Black's stock has only been raoing on New Zealand racecourses sinco 1913-14, and during that short period his progeny have won close on £37,000, half of which has been won by his brilliant daughter Desort Gold. • ' In 1901 the Government of this country imported from England Beveral thoroughbred sires, amongst their numbers being Glenapp (lintliuslast-l'innart). The horses were well bred, but nevertheless they were neglected by breeders; in fact," four of them—Auiasis, Nuptial Bite, Berapion, and Tyranny—were practically neglected altogether. Glenapp had rather better chances than tho four above-mentioned. Mr. D. 11. Koberts'B sire is eighth on the list for the past season with £5700, fiery Cross U. 3232) and Ulendowcr (£1382) being responsible for most of- his winnings. The Elderslie sire Kilbrouey (The WagInnismakil) had nothing of as good class »s Kilboy was the previous season raoing for him during tho -late season. Eighteen of his progeny won £6574 in stakes, the locally-owned Rose Pink (£832) doing tho best of his tribe. . ' Altogether tho stook of six other stallions gathered In £4000 or ovor for their Bires.
