LADIES' ASSOCIATION. The first 6eries of games in the second round of the Indies' hockey competitions ' was played 1 at Karori Park on Saturday. ] Tuo match between the two leading j teams—College A and Ramblers—was s worth going a long way to see, the play \ all round being of a very high order, i College, without a doubt, played the best ] game seen on Karori Park for many years 1 past, and their win of 3 to 1 places j them in the lend with two points. Following are the results:— , Seniors. ' Wellington Girls' College A v. ! Ramblers A—From the bully-off College : carried play, and soon had Kamblers on the defence. From a fine ccntro from ■ the left wing .Miss Miuchbanks opened College's score by finding the net. Botn sides were playing with fine dash and great combination, and the pnssing ot both teams was good. Kamblers for a time held their own, but could not get past the defence of the College backs. Miss M'Kenzie at right full-back was a host in herself. Miss Bedell (College;, getting the ball in her own half, beat the Ramblers' plnvers and scored. Collego 2; Ramblers, 0. Ramblers now had a turn at attacking, and Miss N. Lang, taking a hard pass, raced into the circle and shot a fine goal, 'the spell ended without any further score. In the second ' spell play was of a more even nature, both sid.;s making the game fast and opeo. But College always had a little , the best of the play. Hua-hati.-In the first spell. Miss Enbbuts sco-ed for College, this being the only score in the game. College won by 1 to nil. Mr. Lloyd -was referee. Public Trust v. Base Records-Public Trust defeated, Records by 6 goals to -nil, scoring three in tach spell. The scorers were Misses Israel (3), Feast, (2), Gilfedder (I).' The men's competition advanced another stage on Saturday, .'Jrentham A team again proving too good. With one «:imc to go to complete the round this team looks likely to be tho winners. Ihe Trentham B team had bad luck m having to fill up with new men at the last moment, and were easily beaten by Y M C.A. A. Ramblers, who hayo only be'e.i beaten once this season, had. an . easy win over Karori. Base Records just managed to win from Pay Department. The following aro the results:Trentham A v. Featherston.-lren-thftin, playing with great combination, soo.l had their opponents in trouble. Although at times Featherston got within shooting distance they could not. score Trentham scoring throe goals in the first half and.three in the second. Champlcss scoring five out of the six goals/while Crimp scored the other. Trentham thus won by six goals to nil. Meesrs. Edwards and Jones were tho "yjFcA A v. Records won by two goals to one. Mr. Lloyd was referee. InvercaTgill has lost' one of its oldest ■ residents by the death, in her ninetyeighth year, of Mra. Susannah Howard, reiet of Charles Thomas Howard, loi mariv years Receiver of Land Revenue in lnvercargill. Mrs. Howard arrived at Dunedin in the Agra from Ghravesend with her husband and one son in 1858. Mr Howard walked from Dunedin to lnvercargill, and Mrs. Howard went round by sea, the voyage occupying three weeks. lnvercargill at that was in a very primitive state, and Mrs. Howard's first humble dwelling calico windows. Mr. Howard died in 1906/ Mi. and Mrs. Howard were closelv associated with church work. Mrs. Howard, was also a prominent member of the original Phil-, harmonic Society. Of. generous and hospitable nature, and a most interesting conversationalist/Mrs. Howard endeared herself to a very wide circle of friends. She is survived by two sons—Mr. t. n. Howard, who is practising asi a solicitor in Wellington, and Mr. E. P. Howard, architect, who resides in lnvercargill. ,-Word has been received m Dunedm that Miss Jessie C. Thomson, late of that city, has beon. awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire Medal (MBE.) for services in connection witn the war.
