Dr. Carrick Eohertson, tho Auckland surgeon, is a visitor to Wellington, Mr. Alfred Worslcy has accepted the position of organist and choirmaster .at St. Michael's Church, Christchurch, in succession to the late Mr. Charles ,Begg, who died recently from injuries received in a motor-cycle accident. Mr. J. ri. Welch, who died on Friday at his residence, Wright Street, Wellington, at tho age of 87 years, was a very old officer of the TAinds and Survey Department, his original service running hack in Olago to 18G7. The funeral will take place to-day. Mr. William Kerr, manager of tho Onion Bank of Australia, Ltd., Hunterville, was recently entertained at tho Huntcrvillc Club and presented with a very handsome wallet, suitably inscribed, the occasion being his fortieth birthday. Eulogistic reference was made to Mr. Kerr's social and commercial relations with the community by Messrs. T. G. Taylor, Abel Howie, and other citizens and settlers. Mr. Williams made the presentation, and Mr. Kerr suitably responded. Tho death occurred on Saturday of Mr. Z. Nimmo, a very old .resident of Wellington, aged 78 years. Ho arrived in tho colony by the ship Dunedin in 1873. For many years ho carried on dairy farming at Evans -Bay farm, now known as Hataitai, but for some years past has resided with his son near Palmerston. Mr. John M'Kenzie, who died at his residence, Bracken Avenue, Epsom,- Auckland, last week, in his sixty-eighth year, arrived in New Zealand sixty years ago, in the ship Phoenix. Later he was for .two years a Clerk of Court and Eegistiar of Mines at tho Thames, but resigned this position to visit the Old Country. Returning to New Zealand, he took up journalistic work, and was for some time on the staff of tho New Plymouth ''Herald." Subsequently Mr. M'Kenzie became proprietor and editor ot tho'New Plymouth "Daily News," and remained so for over twenty years. Somo twelve years ago Mr. M'Kenzie entered into business as a land and estate agent at Auckland, and at the time of his decease was senior partner in tho firm of M'Kenzie and Buckley, land and I estate agents. Lance-Corporal' W. H. Heckler ("Bill"), ' who succumbed to wounds received in action 'in France, saw considerable service in Egypt, and camo -unscathed through all important engagements in France. Unfortunately, within twelvo hours of embarking for New Zealand on sick leave, and also to attend to important business, ho was recalled to France, where ho made the supreme sacrifice on July 25. The Into soldier, who waß in his thirtieth year, ,was the youngest son of tho late Mr. J. I'. Heckler, and of .Mrs,Heckier, Forest Downs, Mangamahoe. Prior to enlistment ho was engaged in farming pursuits in the Ihuraua Valley. He has one brother, who expects shortly to join tho colours. Tho Wellington Harbour Board Employees' (Permanent) Association tendered a. farewell to Messrs. Brown, Smith. Newton, and G. Hood, who have recently resigned to enter into an enterprise of their own. There were about 250 present, including representatives of Customs and shipping interests. The presentations of three cases of pipes and a marble clock were part of, (he programme. The chair was occupied by 'Mr. Rossiter. and a very assiduous committee (Messrs. J. Kyle, S. Northcote, J. Larnaoh, S. Johns, F. Connel), and J. Cosllcy) assisted him.
