Sydney Percy Bobcrts was chawed that )ii August 1 last and Jnno 19, at J'iionrii, jo stole .£2O, tho property of tho South Canterbury Soldiers' Association. Accused was rcmauded to appear at rimaru on August 9. A young man named Ernest Nesbitt charged with the theft of six carburettors, valued at iCBi 10s., tho property of Edward Reynolds and Co. Accused was romnnded until August 7, hail being allowed, self iu tlio sum of JCIOO, or two sureties of .£SO each. Chief-Detcc-livo Boddam said tho property had been recovered. Arising out of the above case, Edward Kosenberg was accused of having, received from iXesbitt tho six carburettors, well knowing tliem to have been dishonestly obtained. Ttosenberjj wa3 remanded until August 7. Bail was allowed in tho sum of .£IOO, self in. that amount, or one surety of .£IOO. George Bowden was fined «C 2, with costs 75., on a charge of having broken tho conditions of his prohibition order. A Maori named Harry Iteahu, for whom Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared, was charged on three informations of having on June 30 last assaulted Donald Young, Ernest. Michael Casey, and Gilbert Leonard Higgins. Tho trouble arose on a tramcar out of somo remarks which it was stated defendant had used regarding relumed soldiers. Keahu was fined 80s., with costs 30s. BY-LAW CASES. For allowing horses to wander, John Williamson was fined. 10s., with costs 17s. Bd., and Edward Bradnock 10s., with costs 7s. . John Fyfe was lined -C 4, with costs 13s. Sd., for allowing four head of cattle to wander at Miramar. Norman Miller was fined 405., with costs 17s. (id., for riding a motor-cycle on tho footpath ut Thorndon Quay. Bonjamiu White Campbell was fined iOs., with costs 7h., for having insufficient lights on a motor-car. Luther Stephenson was fined 10s., with costs 75., on nu information of having driven a vehicle without lights on the Hutt Hoad. John Standard was mulcted in a penalty of 10s., with costs 75.,- for driving a vehicle without lights. On an information of having failed to keep to tho .left side of Moleswort.li Street when driving a motor-oar, AV. G. Talbot was filled JCI, with costs 17s. Gd. Mr. P. W. Jackson, who represented defendant, stated that in the circumstances defendant could do nothing but drive on tile wrong side. Hutton E. Troutbeck was c.luiTgcd with leaving a motor-car in the street without lights and with having failed to liavo lights on tho «»t. Oil onoh information, defendant was fined Ms., with costs, 17s. fid. Frank Thomas was fined .CI. with 17s. Od. costs, for failing to stop his motorcar at an intersection of a street when requested to do so by a pojice constable. On informations of riding past stationary traincars at a, greater speed than four miles per hour, Norman J, If. Strawbridge was fined .£2, with costs 17s, Gd., and Douglas Bostock Mackorsev was ordered to come up for sentenct wiien called upon. It was s-tated that the latter had returned from the war and was not conversant witli the by-lan on the subject. Harry Williams was charged with hav ing driven a' motor-car without lights and was fined. «Cl, with costs 17s. Gd. .Arthur James Bruff was fined ,£2, ivitl costs 17s. Gd., for having hawked frui without a license. John Arthur Potter was proceedei against bv the City Corporation, fo' ■whom Mr. .T. O'Shea apmmred, on : charge 'of having unlawfully stood upoi tho platform of a tramear. Defendnn pleaded not guilty, but after hearing th evidence ho was fined .£2, with costs .£ 7s. Gd. - .
