On her trip north this week the Ifonowai will not- call at Wellington. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. ■ Mr. J. G. Baunatyne has rejoined the Kittawa as chief engineer. Mr. J. Anderson, who has been aßliore on leave, has joined an overseas steamer as chief engineer, relieving Mr. J. Alexander, who has come ashore on holiday leave. Mr. W. K. Wade was a cadet in the barque Lonisn Craig, ami afterwards in tho steamer OyclopN, and being in England when war broke out ho joined the British section of the N.Z.E.F. ' He has now been retransferred to tho mercantile murine, and will complete his study for his second ofllcor's ticket. Tho Calm will load here to-day for Wanganui. , Gisborne cargo taken by the Eipple this week was transhipped at Napier, and. the vessel is due to arrive here this morning to ship a special cargo for Napier. The Eipple will return here and sail on Wednesday for Akitio, Napier, and Gisborne. As sho is bringing a load of cement from Tarakohe the Kennedy will not be here until to-morrow. She will sail on Monday for Nelson and West Coast. Tho Wootton for Lyttelton. Orepuki for Greymouth, and Karu for Tarakohe are among the vessels advertised to sail today. Mr. R. Burns, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, has decided to make further representations to the Government as to the inadequacy of the shipping between Auckland and Australia. A passenger ship is also wanted. Advico received, from Sydney says that- 7000 toim of freight was awaiting shipment, for Auckland. The Tarawera has brought from 1500 to 2000 tons of this quantity, the Maltura will bring 15C0 lo 1700 tons, and another 1500 tons has been promised by the Niagara, but it is anticipated that in the meanlimo another 5000 tonß will have accumulated. The Mission steamer Southern Cross arrived at Auckland on Wednesday morning. She experienced fine weather on her trip through the Islandß. and visited the Solomon Islands and New Hebrides, but all the islands wove quiet. Two days before reaching Auckland she ran into rather heavy weather, but shipped no water. She brought 17 passengers from Norfolk Island. The Wairau Bar is now workable, and the Wairau left Wellington yesterday for Blenheim. It is probable that the Opawa will lie up for a lime. The schooner Hunnui, which left Wellington sixteon days ago for Melbourne, was reported to be sheltering in Cloudy Bay last wcelt. - The Kapuni. which has bocn undergoing overhaul at. Lyttelton. is due at Wellington to-morrow from the southern port. She will sail for Patea on Monday. The auxiliary schooner Gisborne. which left Wellington on July 20 for Dunedin,£ was reported to bo sheltering in Kakapo Bay, ncaV Nelson, early last week. As the weather has now improved the vessel should nut in an appearance at Dunedin a|. an early date. Colliers due to arrive here from the Coast during the week-end are tho Koniata from West port and Karamu and Kokiri from Greymouth. j
