FLOODS IN THE SOUTH

For a feu- days a south-wester of moderate temperature has been raging, acompanied by heavy rain, resulting in 'tho melting of the snow on tho hills in the back country. The rivers havo risen considerably, and have overflowed their banlcs at places. The Waipahi flooded suddenly on Thursday liisht, water entering tho. township and finding its way into somo dwellinas. Tho Matnura River had risen 18 inches to-day, but has a long way to go before flooding at Cloro is to bo apprehended. The Mimihau flooded on Thursday night, water entering Wymlham. The Oreti :s bank-high at Tmmsdfln, and is over the road at Wallacelown. The weather is apparently improving, and serious floods are not anticipated.
