BOYS' INSTITUTE
The first of a series of monthly gymnastic competitions was held in the institute gymnasium during the- past week, prizes being awarded fo.r each grade. The juniors had murehing , in l various styles, breathing exercises and inarching in fours, also four freehand exercises. The results were: 1 , . Tlixon, 1; L. Thompson, 2; V: Tyson, 3. H. Farnall missed being placed by a f'-w points only. The intermediates, besides marching, had five freehand exercises, iive iliimbdl exercises, two -rels of exorcises on the horizoutal bar,.two on the parallel bar, two on the Itomnn ring?, and two exorcises on the n'opos. The results were: L. Barker and L. Fenby tied for first place, .T. Cannon coming 'third. Air. J. ildwilt acted as examiner for this grade us '.veil ,us for the junior. In the senior jjnulo the examination was the sariie as for the intermediates excent that one extra exercise was required in each class of work. C. Walloon was awarded first plate, A. Jloss second, and T. Jlowarlli thint. Jlr.. J. l'ollouk was tho judgo.
