NAVY LEAGUE CONCERT
The concert given in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last night iu aid of tho Navy League funds was a decided success. There was a crowded house, some people being turned away, and tliu ladies and gentlemen given their services in a good cause provided a cajjital entertainment. Tableaux and an original masque arranged by Miss Mary Butler, were special features of the programme. They showed originality and artistic ability in a high degree. Tho first tableau was "Travellers Past niul Present," representing an curly Victorian maiden waiting l'oj' a stage coach, and :i twoutieth century damsel about to mount a motor-cycle. Then came a futurist scene and some .particularly effective groups of living statuary. Miss Butler's assistants in this portion of the entertainment were Misses Ci. Millias, P.. War- 1 dell, J. 'fully, E. Hawkins, 13. Smith, I'. Hamilton, 1,. Millias, B. Mackersey, M. Wylio, L. van Stavercn, 13. Gilmour, and ]•!. .Adani6. The masque, untitled "The Vision of Hope," told of the defeat of War and his minions by Victory, Peace and Love, the phases of Uie struggle being interpreted chiefly by clever dancers, including Miss Dorothy Saunders (Discord), Miss Isabel Wilford (Grief), Miss .loan Ijeero (Jov), and Miss Elsie Dick (Love).' Other parts were taken by Mrs. Stanton Harcouvt tflope), Mr. Cranleigh Barton (War), Miss 13. A. Christie (Victory), Miss Constance Morice (Prosperity), Miss Margaret Butler (Peace). Miss K. Cruickshank (Harmony), Miss L. van Stavoren (Liberty), anil Miss P. Hamilton (Justice). The masque was very effectively mounted and staged. The words had been written by Mr. Hnrcus Plimmer and tho music arranged by Mr. P. R. Johnstone. Musical numbers on the programme comprised songs by Miss 11. Fuller and Mr. L. C. Barnes, who were both recalled. Mrs. 11. S. Malcolm contributed a most graceful Oriental dance. The. programme was completed by a comedy "The Bathroom Door," in which Misses Mnsscy, Butler. Eva Butts, and Valeire Corliss and Messrs. Yt\ Cooper' and L. Buckeridge represented hotel guests in early morning array. Jliss Mnsscy, as the flapper, and Miss' Butler ns the prima donna, wore engaging kimonos with great success. The music throughout was provided by Mr. P. ]?. Johnstone's_ trio, and Mr. Cooper stagemanaged with great assidniiv. A sweet stall, ju charge of Mrs. K"i!!i Kirkcaldie, did very successful bueiuo*.
