RESERVISTS' APPEALS

CASES HEARD IN WELLINGTON. The Second Wellington Military Service Bonrd sat in Wellington yesterday. Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., 'presided, mid had with him Mr. M. .). Alack and Mr. l'\ Curtice. Captain Beale was the military representative. An appeal made by the Native Department on behalf of Morris Domb, accountant: in tho Maori Laud Board branch, wns dismissed. Tho Department contended that the services of Domb were essential. The board flowed leave until October 9. Messrs. B. Hannah and Co., boot manufacturers, appealed for George F. P. Anderson, factory foreman. The representative of the firm slated that Anderson, who was a Class C reservist, aged 37 years,' was an experienced man, who could not be replaced. If he were exempted, the firm would not appeal for any other employee, Tho board adjourned' the caso sine die. The appeals of L. A. V. Bcesby; peltclasser (employer's appeal) and Lawson Stewart, shearer, were adjourned until September, the men to remain meanwhile in their present employment. David Waller M'Kelvoy, dairy farmer. South Karori. appealed on the ground of public interest. He stated that he managed his father's farm as well as his own, and sent the milk into the city. He could not find a competent mm] to take charge in his place. The appeal was adjourned sino die on condition that M'Kelvoy continued to supply milk to the city. An employer's apneal on behalf of Melbourne Orchnrd, clothing manufacturer, was dismissed, with leave until September 11. In the case of Frederick J. Hale, of Class B, Mr. Evans stated that apnellant was eecond engineer in charge of the erection -of Lever Brothers' new works at Petone. He was .1!) years of age, with a wife, a child, and a mother-in-law dependent upon him." The firm made it a rule to apneal for no employee. Tf Hale went iiito camp his place would have lo be taken by a man from Australia. The work to be done required technical training and experience. The board adjourned the ease until October. The board decided to recommend Ihree months' leave for Private A. L. Scott. Forty-first Reinforcements, on the ground that' his services were required on lis mother's farm for the wheat-sowing season. Two other brothers were in the Forces. _ , ' Corporal T\ H. TTnrnn was granted leave for 90 days to enable him to lake a course at an aviation school. He would be returned to camp if found unfit and if his progress was unsatisfactory. The hoard adjourned until 10 a.m. to-day. . ■
