EXTRA LEAVE

UPTURNED MEN'S APPEAL. Appeals for additional leave J>v men returned to New Zealand sick and on furlough were heard yesterday by the Second Military Service Board. Tho board decided to recommend leave in all cases. Lancc-Corporal Martin E. M'Alister said that his had served for three years. Ho was the sole support of his aged widowed mother. The-board granted six months' leave. Driver J. S. Walsh, N.Z.E.A., was allowed six months' leave in similar circumstances. Sergeant J. H. Milburn, Machine-Gun Corps, asked for leave on account of illhealth. Ho stated that he had served ' since tho beginning of the war, and did not feel fit for further service. The board allowed two months' leave. 'Lance-Corporal G. P. Harvey, MachineGun Corps, another Main Body man, said ho had been wounded, and had suffered from fever. He felt unfit for further service. Ho also was granted two months' leave. Q.M.G.S. S. C. Evans, Pioneer Battalion, was granted leave until Class E was called up. He had four children, and had served throe years four months. Private A. C. Borland, Machine-Gun Corps, who had lost two brothers at the front, was allowed six months' 'leave. He hail served for eighteen months, and had suffered from trench fever. Lance-Corporal P. E. Ovenden, who had been wounded on Gallipoli and in Prance, was allowed three months' leave. He stated that his parents were practically dependeut on him. , Private C. A. Russell, with three and a half years' service to his credit, was given three months' leave.' Six months' leave was granted to each of the following soldiers:—Private George .Tones, three years' service-; Rifleman A. C. Nankervis, threo years' service; Private John Finey, two and a half years' service; Corporal J. E. Holland, ' two years' service. Corporal Holland hnd three children, and had lost two brothers at the front. ,
