MEETING- OF TEE COMMITTEE. K
A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wellington Ruj'oy I'nion was held last evening in the i'.M.C.A. looms. Mr. D. D. Weir presided. It ivas decided to take no further action -with reference to the matter of J. Ward inadvertently playing over age in the fifth class team of the Oriental Club.
Dr. Newman, in reply to the congratulations of the union on the success of his son at the front, wrote: "When staying with General Poissell in France, ono of his staff, Colonel L'iverey (Irish International) told me that football was the finest of all games to teach soldiering, obedience, combination playing as a team, resolution, pluck, quick decision, etc.' Now Zealand footballers havo done particularly well in battle, and are very quick to learn all points of fighting, and make excellent non-commissioned officers."
A Petone player who left the field on Saturday, July Unattended and explained that lie was left practically alone on tho field, and went off, following- the others. He di(J not endorse the action of the team, and expressed u-egret at leaving the field. The committee accepted the explanation und decided to take no further action in the matter.
Mr.- E. Fordyce, referee in the PetoneTientham A match played on the Athletic Pnrk on Saturday, wrote slating that he had occasion to ordeir Arthur Parker, of the Petone team, off the ground for kicking one of the opposing side while on the ground. The referee attended and gavo an explanation of the incident, and Parker also attended and stated that lie did not kick tho player, and thought it was a case of mistaken identity. After some discussion it was decided to disqualify Parker for two playing Saturdays. , . ..." v lt was decided to play the lost of the ■junior games, Hntt v. Wellington, on Saturday, August 10, as a cmtaiu-raiser to the final for the senior championship, Petone v. Ponoke.
