THE GEMMELL'S CROSSING TRAGEDY
INQUEST ON ONSLOW MAYHEAV. ' Br Telegraph.—Press Association. Oamaru, July .10. An inquest on the body of Onslow John AYilliani Mayhcw, whose body was found in the scrub on the south bank of the Kakanui River, and for whose arrest a warrant had been issued for the murder of George Swan Burke, at Gemmell's Crossing, was held this afternoon before the District Coroner, Mr. J. E. Bartholomew. After the medical testimony, had been taken and evidence of identification heard, the Coroner said that deceased was evidently acting under a homicidal impulse, bnt apart from any inference which was to he drawn from the tragic events and the unnatural nature of the acts, there was no definite evidence of mental alienation. He found that deceased committed suicide by shooting on or about.April U, 1018.
