•MEETING OP THE COUNCIL. I The ordinary meeting of the Petoae Borough Council was held lost ovening. Tha Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) preeided, mul thoro were present: Councillors W. Cox, J. Churchouse, J. Foster, S. Newlands, J". M'Dougall, D; M'lienzie, E. 11. Jones, and C. P. Brocklebank. Tho Superintendent of the State Guar-, anteed. Advances Office wroto advising that the precedent consent of the ,Gover-nor-General-in-Council to tho raising of a loan of .£2400 hail been gazetted, A letter was received from the Hutt County Council intimating that it recognised no liability iu the mattor of lighting tho Hutt Pipe Bridge. It was decided to defer consideration of the matter until a reply had been received from the Wellington City Council. The Wellington City Council wrote stating that the police have on several occasions been asked to take action in tho matter of vehicles without lights using the Hutt Koad after dusk. Several councillors stated that there wore breaches of the vehicle by-laws on the Hutt Itoad in tho daytime, and it was resolved to ask tho,City Council to authorise, the roadmen to exercise control of the.'i'oad. Tho Town Clerk,' Lower Hutt, wrote advising that the matter of Everest's Creek culvert has been refeired to the Borough Engineer to look into, with a view of having tho block cleared so that the water may have a free (low. The Acting-Prime Minister wrote that tho internment of aliens was boing carried out in accordance with tho instructions of tho Imperial Government. After a considerable discussion it was rccognis"l that tho question was an Imperial one and that the New Zealand authorities could do nothing'moro. • Tho District Traffic, Manager of the Now Zealand Railways wrote regretting his inability to provide a ticket box at tho north end of the platform on Monday, mornings. The councillors wevo not satisfied w'th the reply, and it was decided to appoint Councillors S. Newland and' Jones as a deputation to wait upon the Traffic Manager and explain the position to him. ■
