By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunotlln, July 25. Tho steamer Breeze arrived to-day after a tempestuous voyage of nine days from Wanganui. Tho vessel encountered a heavy 1 * southerly gale in Cool; Strait, at the end of last week, and was compelled to shelter at Cape Campbell. The voyage was resumed on Sunday, but the Breeze again encountered a terrific southerly gale, and the vessel put intot Pigeon Bay on Monday for shelter. The weather moderated on Thur a dav, and the Breeze then resumed her voyage." Although buffeted by tho heavy seas, the ship sustained no damage. HULK TO BE BEFITTED AS SEA-GOING VESSEL. By Telegraph—Press Association Dunodin, July 26. Tho Union Company lias ducided to refit nnother hulk as a sea-going vessel. Tho steamer To Anau leaves Auckland to-day with tho County of Anglesea in tow for Port Chalmors, wncro tho hulk will bo refitted. . The County of Anglesea was an iron b'truue of 1049 tone gross, built in 1877 by Messrs. 11. and J- Evans and Co.. Liverpool She has been a hulk in Aucliland Harbour for some time. This is the third luillc the Union Company ha? taken tor refitting since the outbreak of war, tho other two being the lima and the old extraining ship Da-rtford. A fourth ship was till' Lilla. which was sold to Messrs. llceso Bros., of Christchurch, who are converting her into a steamer, tee. engines being those salved from the Opouri. which was wreckrd on tho Greymouth bar a few months back. THE WKATHEII OUTLOOK. Indication!; last night were for hue weather locally again. In Cook Strait the weather was clean, and there was a moderate swell. Yesterday afternoon's report showed that the weather had improved generally, hut was still bad along tiie East Ooast of Now Zealand. Arrivals at Wellington yasterday afternoon included the Grey mouth colliers Kfl.mo and Kaliika. The Kumo hud a trip of 52 hours, and tho Kaliika look 44 hours. The Union Company were advised from Napier that the sea was rough there lurther delaying the Uosamoiul., which, Jt was hoped, would bo able to sail tc-day. An arrival at Lyttelton at 2.30 p.m. yesterday was the Wootton. The. vessel, which had been sheltering under Capo Campbell for four days, left at 7 a.m. on Thursday. M'. >rs. STIIPS FOR AUBTEALIA. Uncertainty exists as to when the first of the fleet of 14 wooden ships, ordered bilbo Commonwealth Government 111 America, will reach Australia (says.tho Sydney "Daily Telegraph"). At. least three should have delivered cargoes in Australia, by this time, but, according to cabled information received by the Minister controlling shipping (Mr. Poynton), there havo been un-looked-for delays. The Oathana, the first vessel to be launched, was loaded on July 9. but official acceptance haß been delaj'ed for a few dayß. The Oulbarra, is due for delivery thiß month; also the jjailata, whoso boilers have already boen delivered. The Bundnrra will not be ready until the end of September. The Challambra, which was launched on July 4, lias had to he returned to dock, as the port shaft °P cnl "S has had to bo rebored, and the date of her delivery cannot bo forecasted. Ino culj other vessel concerning which information is available is tho Goolcha, which was launched on July 9. Mr. Poynton is dissatisfied with the rate of progress being made, and he is unable to say when the contracts will be completed He states also that there aro indications that t,no shins will cost considerably more than was originally calculatcd-fJI a ton.
