AUTOMOBILE UNION
\ANNUAL MEETING. ' The filth annual meeting of tho New Zeuland Automobile Union was hold at tile' Chamber of Commerce rooms yesterday. Present: Messrs. IJ.1 J . S; AT Lean, president (in the eliair), J. S. Itawkes (Canterbury), I'. Pahillo (Hawko's Bay), Banks, Stott, U. B. Bullock, and Dr. 11,I 1 , lungiit (Wellington),. 'I'ho meeting uecjded to give its official support to the movement recently started in Auckland known as the Good lioads Association. Tho following four resolutions were passed:— 1. That tho roads of tho Dominion should be made and' maintained at tho joint cast of those using such roads, those owning the lands whose value is increased or maintained by the existence of such roads, and by the Government of the Dominion.
■ 2. That tlie main or arterial roads of the Dominion should be managed or controlled by a non-political National Eoud Board.
3. That the several classes of taxpayers contributing to the cost or the maintenance of theso roads should have a just representation on such hoard.
•1. That a committee consisting of tlio president of this union and a representative of each affiliated association be .appointed to arrange a conference with representatives of tlie Counties Conference and the Good Bonds Association with a view to discussing these resolutions.
The following were elected officers for tlio ensuing year:—President, Mr. P. S. M'Lean; vice-presidents, Messrs. Bullock (as chairman, Executive Committee) and Hemingway, and a committee consisting of three delegates from the Wellineton Association and one each' from tho Wajrarapn and the Canterbury Associations. Mr. H. Beauchamp-Platts (Wellington) was re-elected secretary and Mr. 0. G. Kembor auditor.
