The Hon. J. A. TTmian returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday.
Colonel N. P. Adams, C.M.G., Commandant of Featherston Camp, who has been undergoing treatment in a privato hospital in Wellington, is now improving steadily in health.
Lieutenant Salmond, reported "missing, believed killed," is a son of Sir John Salmond. At the outbreak of the war Lioutenant Salmond was an undor-grad-uatc at Cambridge University, studying law. A fortnight after relations were broken between Germany and Great Britain, ho enlisted with the 9th Lancers, English cavalry. Ho transferred to tho Now Zealand Infantry afterwards. During the earlier stages of tho war he was gassed, and subsequently wounded. Havin" recovered from his wounds, lie returned to tin! front three months ago. Lieutenant Salmond, who was 20> years of age, was born in New Zealand, but received the earlier part of his education in Adelaide. Later ho continued his studies at Wellington College. From that institution he proceeded to Victoria University College, and for a time was connected with the firm of Messrs. Skerrott, Trinp, and TUair, of Wellington. Hie you'iger brother, Jlr. K. At the evacuation he was re-turned to New Zealand with the other medical studenls, and at the nrwent time is completing his course of study for the M.B. degree.
Jtr. Scott Colville, who is at present in Wellington making arrangements for the Cnpelli concert season, received advice from Auckland yesterday that ho hnd boen drawn in the ballot.
Mr. J. H. Pogni, president of the Auckland Licensed Victuallers' Association, is visiting Wellington, and will be returning to the north in the'course. of a few days.
Mr. J. F. Matheson, ponds agent in the Chrislchureh Railway Department, died in Christchurch on Saturday. M?. Mathe.son, who at the time of hi" death was 52 yeans of age, had been 32 years in tho 'sorvico of tJio Kailwny Department, and during that lime, held a position as statiomnastcr in different places in (ho South Island. Ho was stationmaster in Tininrii for about tlirco years, unci in 1912 was , transferred from T'iniaru to Lyttolton and later on to Christchureli.
Mr. Af. L. Gleeson, of Napier, is at present on a visit lo Wellington. Hβ will probably return lo Napier on Friday.
Rifleman K. G. l>. Kenny (killed), Private A. 11. G. Kenny, of Manafahi, Taranaki (missing), and Private C. 10. '1 , . Kenny (twice wounded and invalided home), are brothers of Mrs. ]■). Stewart, of Njwitituoti, Nelson, and most of their lifo was spent in the North Island. They aro grandsons of the , late LieutenantColonel W. 11. Kenny, of llic 83rd Black Watch, who resided in Onehunga. Ernest left New Zealand with the Rifle Brigade, Albert left with the Ninth Reinforcements. ai|d Charles with (he Twentysixth.
