The fortnightly mceling of the Society for the Pa'evention of Cruelty lo Animals took place last evening, Mr. F. Meadowcroft in Hie chair. Amongst other business dealt with was the matter of shelter, etc., for old and worn-out hor.ses that were kept on hand at the Zoo awaiting slaughter. This had been met by a letter being sent to the City Council asking for some aclion to bo taken in tho way of piroridiiig horsecovers and cribs lo place feed in for the animals. The inspector reported thaithree horses had been destroyed, two attended to for sore?, and five put o(f work for various reasons. The subscriptions amounted lo ots Kis. fid., including £1 Is. from Drs. Herbert and Hardwick Smith, and X\ from Mr. L. Bltindell.
