Prior to Hip commencement of the ordinary business, the members were enlertniivd at dinner bv the Hon. ,T. G. W. Aitken. _ In connection ivith the Royal command that special prayers be offered up for the success of the Allied arms on tho fourth anniversary nr the ■declaration of war, it was decided to'hold a united intercessory service in the Town Hall on the afternoon of Sunday. August l, the consent of the City Council having been obtained for the purpose. _ It was also resolved Hint on August 7,ii.n all-day service of intercession be held in one of the city churches. A deputation consisting of the T?ev. .T. Dawson and (he Rev. TC. 8. Gray waited upon the meetine; and requested that the ministry of the various churches affiliated wit.li (he council should iirjte their congreiratinns to support the proposals of the New Zealand Alliance in connection with the campaign against tho litmor traffic.
