Ho is a most proficient lumper, and his form on the flat was better than that of any other horse Li tho race. Colorado, lOst. 21b., is coming down in the weights, but ho docs not seem to be a good stayer. Sir Solo, lOst. lib., lias run iu two Nationals .and been placed in both, but it can hardly be expected that he is on the up-grade. Kauri lung will bn troubled by the distance, and wherever Wishful is Uladful will be iu front of him. UluctiiuiiM, 9st. 101b., is a horse with a chance, but the lightweights will all be troubled by the distance.

Year after year the top-weights in the Winter Cup get beaten, and in the majority of eases the big mile goes to a speedy hack, who is able to begin well, and aided by a light weight stay on over the. hitter last furlong.. Kegularly the topweight;; show up in the long straight, but just as rcsularly they fail to liuisn on. Last year Parisian-Diamond, lOst. 6lb„ was only just beaten by King Stnr, hut aa the cz-liack failed to win a race again tiio form was not good, while Parisian Diamond worked his way to the top of the handicap. This shows that the top-woights have everything against them in the Winter Cup. This year Parisian Diamond, Volo, and Form Up, have all got over list., or in other words, a weight, that has never yet been successfully carried in the race in question. Neither does anything in the iOsl. division read attractively, and with such a preponderance of horses il, looks certain that the winner will come from the 9sf. nnd over division. Tlie field is certain to be a very largo one, and luck in running will play an important part in tho deoislon.

The paragraph going tlie rounds of newspapers iu connection with Mr. (I. D. Urceuwood's horses being allowed to nominate for ovents at, the iwiiuawiitu Racing Club's meetings is incorrect. The nominations for classical events standing in Mr. Greenwood's name for races to be ruu at the Summer Heeling in 1918 and tlio Autumn Meeting, 1919, were mado in .lunc, 1917, before the recent, disqualification, arising out, of the Biplane incident, was imposed by the club. At the lost, date of nomination for classical events (June, 1918), no nominations were sought from .Mr. Greenwood, nor were any received, and in any case, says an exchange, nominations from him could not have been accepted iu view of the resolution standing on the club's books.

It is frequently stated that Master Strowan has, with the exception of his 6tcoud in (he b'ouganiii .Steeplechase, an unbroken record this season. 'I'hia is not quite correct,: it is his record iu steeplechases, but he started also iu a flat race iu which he ran unplaced. The lint event was the chief race at the Otaki Spring Meeting.
