Id. had been received, with expenses totalling £1 lis. 3d., leaving a balance of £fAk 10s. 2d. for the fund. The expouses, it was pointed out, were incurred for printing and advertising, the onlv expenses which were incurred in connection with the effort. The executive of the committee were congratulated UDon the way in which the appeal had been financed, seeing that the expenses were of so modest "a natnro In the course of a discussion that followed, ■ it was pointed out by some of those present that it would have been a graceful compliment to the French cause, and one that would havo been greatly appreciated by the workers if all selling of .rafflo tickets in tho streets, had censed upontho day of the French appeal. The Rod Cross.shops, and the "copper trail" had closed-down their work, hut the selling of raffle tickets at Stewart Dawson's •corner had been continued, and had distinctly militated ntrainst the work of somo of the stallholders. The fact was emphasised by several of the sponkors that somo arrangement should be arrived at by means of which special street days should he held for a particular object alone, with no other organisation selling against them, as had been the case on-past occasions,■ and notably on the French Day. There, was a very <;reat need for reorganisation in the whole matter of street days, and one speaker held that .they should be restricted to one or twe days a month instead of occurring so frequently as at present.
One of.the speakers explained the svbtem which was followotl' in Sydtiey, where a thoroughly organised plan was followed in connection with these patriotic calls.
Matters in connection with the issue of raffle books for the lace donated by Lady Wilson (Bulls), the divnn cover donated io the Fronch Club, by Mrs. Jeness, the "(chins; of Captain Barclay's, etc. (twelve or thirteen prizes in all) were dealt with. The prizes will bo on view in one- of Messrs. Kirkcaldie audStnin's' windows, and the. rall'le will bo drawn in October.
