FIRE AT WHAKATANE
By Telegraph.—Presn Association. Whakatane, July 19. , A fire yesterday gutted two shops in a Main Street block—those, of J. Clarke's (watchmaker's) and Wong Lee Company (laundry and fruiterer). The brigade and a brick partition wall prevented tho spread of the tire through tho block, ■-which included the Post Office adjoining. The insurances are: On building, ,£7OO in the South British Office; Clarke's stock, JG7OO in the Alliance, and .£175 in the Standnrd.
