HIDE, SKIN, AND TALLQW SALES

The various brokers held their hide, skin, and tallow,sales yesterday.

Meesrs. Dalgety aud Company, Limited, report that they submitted a good catalogue of medium-weight hides. Competition was anything but keen, and when compared with last sale prices heavy ox were fully from hi. to jd. per lb. lower, mediuin-TVcights showing about the same- doclino. Light ox and good cow wero on a par with last sale. The offering of calfskins was smaller than usual, and prices were lower, this, no doubt being mainly due to the inferior nuality. Competition for tallow was fair, and prices again showed a slight drop.

Messrs. Murray, llobcrls, and Co. offered a catalogue of 426 hides ami ICO calfskins, also 156 packages of tallow, to an average attendance of buyers. Hides showed <i decline of from Jd. to Jd, per Hi. for ox hides in good condition, wllilc cows barciy maintained last sale's rates, being about 3d. per lb. on the average lower than last Bale's pricce. Tallow, was lower by fully 20s. to 30s. per ton, parcels offering being mostly taken for local requirements.

The New Zoaaml Limn and Mercantile Agency Co., Lid., offered to a fair attendance of buyers a small catalogue. Hides of good duality were a little easier in price; calfekiiiß and inferior hides sold at late rates. There was a fairly good demand for fat in tins, but tallow in ciiskfl was som°what noglectrrf. to a. email bench of buycre. Compared with, last sale, prices were slightly easier, especially for ox, which were down i<l. to }ii. Heavy cows were about on a par, while medium and light were down id. Calfskins were keenly competed for at prices equal to last sale. Cask tallow was lower by about 2s. per cwt, whilo tine showed an advance of about tho sume amount.

Messrs. Levin and Co. advise that thcro was the U6ual atlemliincc of buyers, who competed froely. As compared with tho salo a fortnight ago, prices for heavyweights showed a slight decline, 110 Quotable change beiug noticed for medium and inferior eorte. Kip and light-weights sold readily at an advance- of id. to id. As compared with last sale the quality of tallow showed a falling off, and prices declined slightly in consequence.

The Wairarapa Farmers Co-operative Association, Ltd., in which is incorporated the United Farmera' Co-operati.-e Association, report a fair attendance of buyers. Tho markot showed a. slight decline in prices of ox hides; other lines about par. Tallow was firm at last Bale quotations.

The-.New Zealand Farmers' 00-operative Distributing Co., Ltd., reports that hide values show little change from last auctions, there being rather a better demand for damaged or faulty lines. Tallow was in better demand at a slight advance on recent rates.
