METHODIST CENTRAL MISSION
Iho . quarterly meeting , of the Management - Board of tlio Metliodist Central Mission was attendfid by a full complement of tho ' officials. The chairman (tlio Rev. G. Knoivles-Smith) referred to the loss the ' mission had sustained in the death of; Mr. Enoch Tonks, and a resolution ap- : preeiativo of his long services, and'or sympathy with his family was ' unanimously adopted, . as '. also sympathy with tho relatives of Mr. Stephens, ' of Porirua, an old official in the former Webb Street Primitive Methodist Circuit, and with Mr. Jeffreys in his unfortunate accident. The membership roll,was reported as 232, and the financial statement showed a small balance in hand. A greater portion of the timo was spent in considering the great need for Central Mission-buildings, and finally it was decided to recommend the trustees to negotiate for tho purchase of a central block of : buildings, ;at a ..cost of ,617,8)0, with a view.to the erection of a Methodist Soldiers' Memorial Hall. The sanction of tho conference having been obtained last year, this schemo will at once bo organised, and an appeal made to the Methodists of tho Dominion to erect a fitting memorial to our ■ hero comrades in an institutional - mission wherein spiritual and social -.work can bo successfully - carried on and the- returning boys find healthy recreation. Tt was unanimously decided to invite tho prosent missioner, the Rev. G. KnowlesSmith, to remain for a further term with tho mission, and in, view of tho cordiality and unanimity of tho invitation he cordially intimated his willingness to accept tho call. , ' ■ .
