The .following prison carders wore appealed for by the Department;— Herbert Wallace Todd, Wellington; Percy Horl>ort Challis, Invcrcargill; John Leonard, Lyttelton; John AV. Coyle, Napier; Charles James M'Mullin, Now Plymouth; i\V. Alex. M'Longhlin, Christchurch. It was represented to the board that the staff of warders had been reduced by the war, and should not bo further reduced if tho public safely was to be maintained. The cases were adjourned sine die. Customs Officors. Tho Comptroller of Customs appealed lor Wallace Stewart, examining officer, Ciisbonic; David W. Porter Dunn, examining officer, Christchurch; liarton Albert Ciingor, examining officer, WangaJiui; and Percy David Jones, examining officer, Timaru. The case of Ginger was postponed till 3iext sitting of .the board in Wellington. .The other cases were adjourned sine die. Tho Comptroller stated that the staff liad been greatly reduced of late by resignations. . A Dairy Factory Manager. The Ohtira Dairy Company appealed for its factory manager, G. I'. Monk. Mr. Brascli, secretary of the company, fiajd that Monk had special qualifications jfor this back-country factory, as lie knew '■something of engineering. The -factory's output last year was 70 tons of butter. The case was adjourned sino die. Seafaring Men. Tho Seamen's Union, represented by Sir. AY. TV Young, appealed for James Hogan, fireman; W. Tynan, fireman; Hector Campbell, 'bosun; G. A. Sherrington, Michael Campbell, able seamoil; Charles Waters, Timothy M'Carthy, W. L. Watson, able seamen; Charles M'Carthy, fireman. Mr. Young stated that Hogan. had served with the Australian Forces and ihad received his discharge. Charles (M'Carthy was over age. Adjournments sino die were made in erery case. 1 In the case of -L. E. Sayers, for whom the union also appealed, r.n adjournment till September ivas made. Lighthouse Keepers. The Marine Department sought the exemption of Ernest James Maalin, instructor, Wellington; James M'Garvie, assistant lighthouse keeper; and AV. J. E. M'lver, assistant lighthouse keeper, Parenga. Mr. George Allport, Secretary for Marine, attended and assured the board that the men could not bo done without and could,not at present be replaced, ,J Tho cases wore adjourned sino die. Other Casos, Emest Albert Stevens, stoker, .JfiraBiar, had an appeal dismissed. The Tourist Department appealed for 'Charles Weir, shift engineer, Rotorua, !but. the appeal was dismissed. The Public Trustee appealed for Herbert Henry Layton, clerk in. tho Christchiurch. office. Decision was reserved. Leave till September was granted Robert, James Murphy, secretary, Island 'Bay. The adjourned appeal of John Edward Dowson, labourer, was further adjourned till next sitting.
