J Lord Rothschild presided at a meeting ! of welcome to tho American Zionist I medical unit which is proceeding to take 5 up relief work in Palestine; Mr. Barnes, speaking on behalf of tho ' Government, eaid that Palestine was lovr ready for transformation. It would be the first 6cene in tho uplifting of tho peoples of tho East, in whioh Zionism would play a. leading part. Tho Govern-, men! proclaimed its trust in tho Zionists' future, because Zionism was identified : with tho ideals for which tho Allies wero fighting. Sir Alfred, Mond said that Zionism did not intend to proelnim a monopoly of tho Holy Land and exclude other races. Its object was to establish in Palestine a Jewish national ccntro where Jows from 1 all over tho world could maintain tho life, thought, and mission of the Jewish race in complete harmony with tho other peoples of Palcstine.-Ans.-N.Z.
