Sir,—ln his speech tho Archbishop states: "The Catholic' Church does not mako compacts with aya political party. She is above and out.-iciL- of .politics." And, again: "Neither the form of government, the method of legislation, nor the political parties in any country art any concern of hers, provided truth* and justice are safeguarded." It would be interesting to know how tho Archbishop reconciles the above statements with the active part taken by tho Roman Catholic clergy in politics in Ireland. Every schoolboy knows that during the past ono thousand years the Roman Church and politics have been as closely .related as Siamese twins, and that it is only lately that tho I'opo "has lost his temporal power. lam not at present a P.P.A., but I think after reading the Archbishop's speech that I will join.— I am, etc., A READER,
