At the monthly meeting nf'Hic Foathorsion Comity Council on Friday, advice was received from Sir. H. F. Tnogood, C.E., Wellington, that the plans for the Upper Tauherenikan Bridge (on the' Fea-therston-Groytown Road) had been approved. The work is estimated to cost in the, vicinity- of .CSOOO. The council on a division defeated a motion brought forward bv Councillor John Martin (treasurer) and T. 0. Haycock, supporting represent at ions made by the Mhangarei County Council, complaining ns to tho settlement of the soldiers on land of poor quality. The majority held that ib was not a" matter for local bodies to r.dviso upon, the chairman (Councillor A. D. M'Leod). and Councillor Q. Donald being responsible for the amendment carried, i.e, "That the letter be received."
