Further details of the unsuccessful atlack on the American steamer bringing a cargo of nitrates from Chile, show that wireless messages were received .by the c.iptain early on Monday morning, causing him to alter his course. The liner was not camouflaged, and was.unarmed. It is believed that tho U-boat had received notice that the steanra was sailing with a cargo of nitrate for use in making munitions. • One torpedo ran along tho side of the steamer, narrowly missing her, and the second passed close astern.—Aus.-N.Z. Sir Eric Geddes, in opening an exhibition of naval photography, said that' recently an enemy submarine , had been discovered, and by a certain method had been compelled to come to tho surface and surrender after a hunt of seventytwo hours. Improvements in mine-lay-ing were gradually controlling the enemy submarines, German photographs in possession of the Admiralty gave fresh proof that the.entrance of Zeebruggo harbour was completely blocked. LORD JELLICOE'S PROPHECY. London, July 11.
