4 .— EFFORT TO CLOSE THE LIQUOR TRADE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, July 12. An efficiency campaign having for its object the closing of tho liquor trado with compensation was launched last night at a public meeting. The Mayor presided, and a motion proposed by tho Rev. 11. S. Gray was carried expressing strong approval of the proposals of the New Zealand Alliance, and pledging the meeting to do all in its power to mako the campaign a supcess.
