It is alleged tlmt llumely swore that his newspaper ivas owned by Americans. Tho United States Government' alleges that it was oivned, by the German Government, which bought, the paper in July, 1015, for 735,000 dollars, the purchase money being drawn froni tiie German Government uccou.uts in various Now York banks. It is alleged that the accounts wero in Count Berngtorff's name, and it' is also alleged that when Ihe "Miiil" bee,'.me pro-German its circulation and advertising fell off, and tho German Government, paid the "Mail an additional £26,000 (iollars.
