There are many rumours in political circles that Mr. Lloyd Gcorgo and Mr. Boniir Law have approached Mr. Asquitli and suggested thiit ho' should becomo leader of the House of Commons. and thus definitely attach himself to tho Coalition. Otherwise Government candiI" dates would oppose the Asquithites at tho general elections; and this, combined ' with tho opposition of tho Labour can- \ didates, would probably result in tho \ virtual extinction of Liberalism. . 1 In the event of Mr. Asqiiith's ac« ' ceptunce, and in view of the fact that \ he holds tho Kent Liberal funds. Mr. : Lloyd George would bo confirmed in his ' leadership. Tho political position is of extremo [ piquancy in view of the circumstaucra / in which Mr. Asquith left office and the ' continual attacks of the "Daily News." Mr. Lloyd George's position is complirated by tho fact that tho Northcliifo 1 nowepapws, in referring to the new rumours, intimate that they will oppose tho Government if Mr. Aequith is allowed to ro-enter'it—Aus.-N.Z.
