Mr. William George Puckey died recontly nt his residence, Woodville, near Kaitaia, three days prior to reaching hte oighty-third- birthday. Mr. Puckey was the oldest surviving 6on of tho kte Mr. W. G. Puckey, who was one of the contracting parties in the first marriage solemnised in New Zealand, tho lirido being also of English parentage. "Whilst the social side of our work .has been 50 successful the historical part has to a certain extent been neglected," states the annual roport of tho Early Settlers' and Historical Association. "Now, this is tho main object of the association. Ono of our rules reads: To collect and place.on record such anecdotea and reminiscences ,of those early days as can bo got from original settlers und their descendants. This must not lie lost sight of any loiter, and your oxeoutivn thinks that the Historical Conimitteo should bo set up, to at onco discuss the best method of carrying out tho instructions of this rule. Wβ are losing too many chances of obtaining most interesting personal remlnisconcos of the early days, and wo cannot afford to put it off any longer. The cost of printing has been a, great handicap, and there eoems no reason why wo cannot follow the example set by kindred eocietios in tho Commonwealth, who have their magari'ies printed by tho Government." Seven thousand Canadians ha,vo been decorated by the British Government for conspicuous bravery. If you cannot come in to too us, drop a postcard for our froa booklet, "Advice' to Inventors." It contains an abundance of valuable information concerning patenting. Study it at home. Call if you can. Henry Hughoa, Ltd.. 157 Feathoreton Street, ■Wellington, and elsewhere.—Adrt.
