"Prospector."—The value of manganese depends upon its quality. Manganese ore with 50 per cent manganese or ' over was worth J-10 per ton in London "three months ago. The price has been going up a little nil the lime, owing to rise in freights more than anything else. Manganite is tin oxide of manganese, and its valuo is governed by the percentage of the pure metal it contains. As to whether a deposit would bo worth mining depends on its quality in the first place and, having ascertained that, the difference between the cost of working the deposit and getting it to the steamer's side, plus the freight to London, and tho market price on its arrival there.
