London, May 9. Mr. H. L. White, of Auckland, ,is a cadet in the R.A.F.

Captain D. Ritchie, of Dunedia. was in London last week. .

Mrs. Govicr and Mr. N. A. Govier, formerly of AVaitomo Caves, are c.t Tunbridge 'Wells.

Dr. Donne, son of Mr. T. E. Donne, is a house surgeon at Middlesex Hospital. Ono of his brothers is with the Tank Corps.

The friends of Captain K. E. Tapper, N.Z.M.C., a.nd Mrs. Tapper, will be interested to hear of the birtli of their daughter.

Lady Plunket will be the hostess at a reception at tho Overseas Club, Aldwych, to-day, from i to 6 p.m., to welcome Dr. I' 1 . Truby King, the founder of the Eoyal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children. Dr. King has been lent by the New Zealand Government to organise a. baby life-saving campaign in this country, to be known as the "Babied of the Empire."

.Sir Thomas Mackenzie recently visited Torquay to open a new canteen for New Zealand soldiers which has been established there by the N.Z.W.C.A. The Mayor of the town gave a civic reception to the visitors, and' this was followed by tho opening ceremony. The canteen was built for a cafe adjoining a theatre, and is beautifully arranged and fitted up. It will be a boon to ilie largo numbers of convalescent New Zealandcrs who arc always in camp at Torquay awaiting return to the Dominion. During his visit Sir Thomas Mackenzie gavo a lecture to the local Chamber of Commerce, and later addressed SCO men on tho eve of their journey home. He also visited tho farm n little, way out of. the town, where his Government has secured 500 acres of waste land. With the help of a stenm plough and a large number of New Zealand soldiers, under Captain MacGowan, this land is now being cultivated. One hundred and thirty acres have already been planted with potatoes, and a crop of 1000 tons may be expected.
