HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Ilntt County Council was held yesterday, Councillor.!. Whiteman presiding. There were present; '.'uuncillors AV. J. Howell, W. Galloway, M. W. Welch, I'. Cavanagli, aud F. The council was given roithority to charge ,'id. per cubic yavd, the revenue lo be spent on the township. A communication was received from Ihe Wliangarei County Council in respect lo the. poor land offered to returned soldiers. 11 was decided lo grant Ihe county engineer (.Mr. J. Liitlbv) a war bonus of £■0,. A contribntioi of .£2 2s.' was ordered to be made to the Mjingohno Hydro-Flec-tric Power l.eone recently formed at Palmerslon No'iii. The county engineer (Mr. ,T. W. Cudbv) reported that a conlraol; had been entered into for f'v quarrying of rock at llorokiwi, and already (iOfl yards had been obtained. A large slip had taken place on the eastern gorge, but a sufficient quantity of the fallen earth had been removed ii.imedialely, lo prevent traffic being iirpeded. A large fall of earth had also occurred at Mitngaroa and at Deep Ci"wk. After an inspection of White's Bridge at Akalarawa, which had been condemned for traffic by the Public Works Engineer, it was slated that repairs cn.i'ii not be recommended, on account of the condition of the structure.
