HIDE AND TALLOW SALES

The fortnightly salo of hides and skins was held yesterday by the various brokers. Messrs. Dalgety . and Co. report :—We held our usual fortnightly sale of hides, tallow, and oddments when we submitted a good catalogue, comprised mainly ot good stout butchers' hides, snitablo for - tanners' requirements. ' Competition for all lots ollefod was sound, although prices for stout Borts were just a shade lower than those ruling at last sale, this no doubt being due to the easier state ot the Australian marltets. Medium and inferior Eortß showed no change. Calfskins were eagerly competed for. and very full.prices wore obtained for all first Quality lots. Tallow was in good demand, and sales were readily effected at late rates Messrs. Murray, Itoberts and Co. report:— We submitted a catalogue of 600 hides and a large quantity of calfskins and tallow. The attendance of buyers was good, and the bidding for good lines or cow and calfskins waß very keen at last sale's rates. For ox and inferior linos of hides the competition was irregular, ox hides showing a declino of id. to Id. per lb. on last sale's rates. Tallow was lirm, with a hardening tendency. Messrs. Abraham and Williams. Ltd. report:—Wo offered a ilarge catalogue of tallow, hides, and calfskins to a full bench of buyers. On the whole, prices were oh a par with last sale, with the exception of calfskins, which realised prices slightly better than those obtained at tho opening salo. We topped the market with heavy ox at UJd. Wo cleared the whole ot our catalogue at prices which should be very satisfactory to clients. Meßsrs. Levin and Co. report :-A fair attendance of buyers and competition good, but in some cases at reduced prices. As compared with the sale a fortnight ago. prices for good ox hides showed a drop of 3d. to Id. per lb., whilst medium.and inferior sorts realised last sale's rulings. Yearlings and calf were keenly sought after, and prices advanced slightly in consequence. The Walrarapa Farmers Co-operative Association, Limited, with which is incorporated the United Farmers' 00-opnrative Association, report that there was not a large attendance of buyers, but prices ruled practically at last sale rates. The N. 7,. Farmers' Co-operative Distributin" Co., Ltd., report a fair attendance of buyers from tho various centres. Prices of all hides show a slight advance. Calfskins are ou a par with previous sales, while tallow has receded a fraction. The Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report a good attendance of buyers. Bidding was slack for heavy hides, .but medium, light, damaged hides and oil calfskins sold well at late prices. Tallow was in fair demand at up to 38s. to 395. for' shipping lots: 335. to 34a. for inferior; and from 28s. to 31s. for tins. The range of prices was as under:— Hides: Ox. heavy, 113 d. to 13M.: ox, medium, lid. to 12! d .; ox. light, aid. to lfljd.: cow, heavy, .8!d. to IOJd.; cow, medium, Bid. to IOJd-: V light.
