"FRANCE'S DAY"
A "VIOLET DAY" TO BE HELD,
In connection with the appeal that is being made for funds to aid the French Red Cross and other French patriotic funds, a suggestion lo hold a "Violot Day" has been favourably received, and arrangements to that end aro bein? made by the organiser and committee. The d'ato has not yet been definitely fixed, but due notice will bo given of the event, and friends in Nelson, Blenheim, AVanganui, tho Wairarapa, and the Manawatu are to be asked to supply violets for sale on the day arranged, as the intention will be to transform the streets and homes of Wellington into on'o vast, violet field, tho fragrance of which will reach the people of France in the great remorseless struggle for freedom and civilisation. , His Excellency tho Governor-General is to be asked to move tho principal resolution at tho public demonstration in honour of Franco to be held in tho Town Hall on Monday week next (July 15). It is just possible that the ConsulGeneral for Franco in Australasia (M. Chayet) may be in Wellington on July. 15 If so, ho will bo invited to occupy a sent of honour on tho platform. M. Chayet is at present visiting Auckland. Attention is drawn to some clever penwork which surrounds an appeal for the French now being exhibited in the window of M'Gregor Wright's artist's studio on Lambton Quay. The artist is Captain W. M. de B. Barclay, who is organising the Dominion-wido- r.ppcal for tho. French. .
