SERIOUS OUTLOOK FOR BRITISH COAL
NET SHORTAGE/OF 27,000,000 TONS TO BE MET. (Rec. July 4, 7.1-5 p.m.) London, July 4. The Press Bureau reports that the withdrawal of 75,000 miners from Ihe British collieries will involve a'reduction in the coal output of 22,500,000 tons. It is"also estimated that the extra 12,500,000 tons required will be for war purposes for France, Italy, neutrals, and coaling stations. The shortage for British consumption thus amounts to 35,000,000 tons per annum. Tho household rationing scheme will save 8,000,000 tons, leaving 27,000.000 tons to be provided by improved output and economies in industrial and transport consumption. Tho outlook therefore is serious.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
