THE WOOL PURCHASE
: ' DEAL IS CLOSED. ! The Minister in Charge of Imperial Supplies (the Hon. D. H. Uutfirle) has : decided, that no conference oil the wool ; purchase olfer of the Imperial Governiment will be necessary, and that the 1 transaction may be regarded as closed. This means that (lie wool output of this j country, for at least one yenr after the war, and probably for two years, will he itaken "by the Imperial Government, at ■the present prices, the best prices every ;known for wool in New Zealand.
Mr. Guthrie has received from the executive of the Poverty Bay Farmers' Union the following telegrams— "Executive of Poverty Bay Farmers' Union desire it to be clearly understood that., the attitude of Mr. Lysnar re wool purchase is not in a'ccord with their desires. ! They have not been consulted by Mr. Lysnar upon the matter. They consider the one year after the war eon--1 ditioa in (he wool purchase scheme deleirablo for both farmer and Govem- : meat."
• Mr. Guthrie states that this telegram is J typical of many thut ho has received ■ from representative people and organisations all over New Zealand on this subject. It should bo noted that Poverty ;Bav is the district in which Mr. Lysnar ;resides, and ono of tho districts represented by him on tho Executive Committee of \Vool Growers of the Dominion. :He objected to tho continuation of the commandeer for a year or any other .period after tho cessation of hostilities..
