Tho nail fur the north-bound express now closes at-10 a.m. The rules provide that the rccislcrcd mail shall closo an hour in advanco of tho ordinary mail, and it nppears, therefore, that registered letters must bo posted by 9 a.m., the hour at .which tho office opens. Tho New Plymouth mail, which reaches Wellington in the evening, is jiot sorted into tho boxes until shortly before 8 p.m. The mail for dispatch tho iiext morning closes at 8 p.m., so that it is impossible for a. reply *to be sent f'by return."
