DAY'S BAY LOAN POLL
BOTH PROPOSALS DEFEATED
VERY CLOSE VOTING
Yesterday a poll of the ratepayers of Day's Bay was taken on proposals to raise two loans,. 0110 of ,04500 to provide a higli-pressura water supply, unci .£7500 to provide n drainage system for the residential portion of the Bay, under a scheme demised by the city' engineer (Mr.. W. JI. Morton) under an arrangement with life Hut I: County Council, the local body which has jurisdiction over the area concerned. Opinion has be;n sharply divided among the ratepayers as to the advisability of prosecuting so expensive a work at the present juncture, and the result of the poll indicates that -tho majority of those sufficiently interested in the schemes to go to the poll were against the proposals. The results of the polls were as follow DRAINAGE'SCHEME. for. Against. Town Hall 37 GO Day's Bay 38 7 50 67 WATER SUPPLY. . For. Against. Town Hall 40 58 Day's Bay 14 G 54 64 There were 198 names on the roll of ratepayers, of whom only 1)8 recorded (heir votes. The result _of the poll means that no work of the kind propos d can go forward. The election was conducted by Mr. James Ames (chief returning officer for the City of Wellington), 'lhe expenses of the election and the cost of preparing the scheme will, it is assumed, be borne by the Hutt County Council.
