The residential partof the Bay (indeed, tho Park as veil) is a portion of the Ilutt County, but under u special enabling Act, the county Las agreed to the Wellington City Council carrying out the proposed works, the cost of which will bo borne by special rates levied by tho Hutt County Council, on top of which property-owners will, of course, have to pay ior individual connections with tho mains. . The scheme of drainage has been definitely approved by the District Health Officer, Dr. 11. G. Watt. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke, C.M.G.) on Saturday received tho following letter from Dr. Watt:"I have the honour to inform you that on Friday, in company with Mr. Moricc the Assistant City Engineer, I visited Day's Bay to inspect the locality on which it is proposed to ifcstal the septic tank:! in connection with the drainage scheme, as outlined by Mr. Morton. Ab present sanitation at Day's Bay is by no means satisfactory, owing to the facUliafc numerous householders have installed 6eptio tanks-on sites which are by no means adapted fo; the purpose, consequently the effluent from these tank*? 'finds its way into the street channels and ultimately to the water front, Very often creating a nuisance in its course. "I am of opinion that the scheme proposed by Mr. Morton is in every -way suitable, and Trill provide a remedy for the present unsatisfactory state of affairs."
