NAVAL SKIRMISHOFF OSTEND
RUNNING FIGHT WITH ENEMY'S TORPEDO CRAFT A LONG-RANGE AFFAIR (Rec. Juno 30, "11.25 p.m.) London, June 29. The Admiralty reports: 'Tour British destroyers, patrolling the Belgian coast on tho evening of June 28, sighted eight of the enemy's torpedo boats. The British steamed at a full speed on an easterly course, engaging the enemy at long range, the action lasting fifteen imputes. Three moro German torpedo 'boals joined the enemy, whereupon the' British fell back upon their supports. Tho enemy did not follow, and tho action was broken off. The British vessels were not damaged."-Aus.-TS'.Z. Cable Assn.-Reuter. ' THE GERMAN VERSION. (Rec. June 30, 11.25 .p.m.) London, Juno 29. ■ A German official report states: "On the evening of June 27 parts of our Flanders torpedo forces engaged British destroyers off Ostond. After half an hour's fight tho enemy withdrew, escap-. ing out of sight by developing artificial fog Hits were observed on two of tho enemy's destroyers. ■ Ours returned to their bases undamaged."—Aus.-N.Z.
